Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have uncovered a ritualist den with 20 mummified corpses in Benin Metropolis, the Edo State capital.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, in a press release on Wednesday, August 17, mentioned the suspected ritualist den was uncovered alongside Asoro slope, off Ekenhuan street, in Uzebu quarters.
In line with Iwegbu, operatives of the command stormed the scene following credible intelligence acquired. Three suspects have been arrested whereas others fled.

“In pursuance of its operational mandate of nipping crimes within the bud, Operatives of the Edo State Police Command 17/08/2022 unravelled a suspected ritual shrine. Following credible info on the Command’s disposal that some corpses have been found in a constructing alongside Asoro slope off Ekenhua street, Uzebu quarters,Benin metropolis. Operatives of the command instantly swung into motion and mobilized to the scene.
“On the scene, 3 suspects, Chimaobi Okoewu ‘M’ and Oko Samuel ‘M’ each of Afikpo in Ebonyi and Gideon Sunday ‘M’ of Akwa-Ibom State have been arrested whereas others fled. An intensive effort is ongoing to arrest the opposite fleeing suspects. 15 mummified male corpses, 3 mummified feminine corpses and a pair of mummified youngsters corpses have been found on the scene
“To this finish, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in control of state CID to hold out a discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the found corpses and due to this fact enjoins most of the people to be calm because the command will proceed to make sure the security of all law-abiding residents and people residing in Edo state.”
